If you are a meat-eater, then you probably know that beef jerky can be tough. Sometimes, the only thing that gets you through is mushroom jerky! The mushrooms add umami flavors and a softer texture to your dried meat snack. Moreover, it is much healthier than traditional beef jerky too! In this recipe, we will show you how to make the desired concoction.
Let us get started
Get started by gathering some fresh mushrooms of all different types and sizes. You can also buy dried mushrooms to use in this recipe. Slice the mushrooms up into strips, and then cut the strips into bite-size pieces. Once you have done that, you can set them aside in a bowl. After that step, you can start making your jerky.
Here is what to do next:
Take your jerky ingredients and put them in a frying pan on medium/low heat. The first thing you notice about the jerky is that it tasted slightly meaty. This was because you added 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder.
Next, make sure your ingredients are thoroughly mixed which can be done by either blending everything until no trace of texture is left, or using a wooden spatula to mash the ingredients together. Place them in the microwave for about 30 minutes, or over very low to medium heat.
In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of salt with 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika. This is your seasoning blend. Now, add in your red pepper flakes. This is optional, of course, but it can give you some extra heat.
Add the rest of your seasonings to the bowl with the mushrooms. You also need to mix in 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika as well.
